Turkey's minister of foreign affairs held Sunday a couple of phone talks regarding Iran's uranium swap, Anadolu Agency reported.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu first assessed the latest developments regarding the recently signed uranium swap agreement during a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Manuchehr Mottaki.
The two ministers discussed the relevant letter to be sent by Iran to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), diplomatic sources said.
Davutoglu later talked to IAEA's Director General Yukiya Amano on the phone and the two officials also assessed the content of Iran's letter.
Davutoglu asked Amano to display leadership and contribute to the progress of the process as soon as possible, sources said.
Foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran and Brazil signed a deal on May 17 where Iran committed to give the 1,200kg of 3.5% enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for 20% enriched uranium it will receive from Western countries to be used as fuel in the nuclear research reactor in Tehran.
The Iranian capital will receive the enriched uranium from the Vienna Group, comprising of the U.S., France, Russia and International Atomic Energy Agency, in Turkey.
