"Azerkosmos" has completed technical work on placing local TV and radio channels on the first telecommunications satellite Azerspace/Africasat-1a, the company told Trend on Thursday.

The company said that Azerbaijani TV and radio channels are expected to be broadcast by the satellite shortly after the contracts are signed with TV and radio companies.

Azerspace/Africasat-1a satellite will provide local TV and radio companies with many benefits and acceptable conditions of broadcasting. The special compression technology will allow TV and radio companies to significantly reduce the use of satellite resources and organize the best quality package broadcasting. A high level of signal transmission in the satellite coverage area will be the main quality factor.

"Satellite dishes and receivers of the population can be used to watch satellite TV," the company said. "Azerspace/Africasat-1a is at the orbital position of 46 degrees east longitude. The exact coordinates of frequencies will be made public in the near future."

Azerspace/Africasat-1a was launched from the start complex ELA-3 at the Guiana Space Centre on Feb. 8.

The payload of Azerspace/Africasat-1, built on the STAR-2 platform, consists of 36 transponders (24 C-band transponders and a 12 Ku-band range). The frequency band of each transponder is 36 MHz. The satellite weights 3275 kg and it service life in orbit will reach up to 16 years.

The Azerbaijani satellite Azerspace/Africasat-1 is designed to provide digital broadcasting, Internet access, data transmission and the creation of VSAT multiservice networks and governmental communications.
