Corrections Policy
Accuracy is a core commitment of Trend News Agency. When a story we publish contains a factual error, our policy is to correct it openly, mark the correction visibly on the affected article, and tell our readers what was wrong.
This page explains what we treat as a correction or a reply, how they appear on our site, and how to alert us if you believe a Trend story contains an error.
What we correct
We update or amend our reporting in five situations, and we label each one differently so that readers can see exactly what changed and why.
Correction. When a published article contained a factual error — a wrong name, date, number, title, attribution, location or similar verifiable fact — we change the text and add a dated note describing what was corrected. The headline is also amended where it is itself affected by the error. Where the error has caused identifiable harm to a person's reputation, honour or dignity, the correction is accompanied by an apology.
Clarification. When a statement in the original text was technically accurate but could mislead a reader as published, we revise the wording and add a dated note explaining the clarification. Clarifications are used where the underlying facts were not wrong, but the way they were presented could be misunderstood.
Reply. A person whose honour, dignity or business reputation is affected by a Trend publication, or whose statements have been materially distorted in it, has the right to submit a reply for publication. Where the request meets the conditions of applicable Azerbaijani legislation, we publish the reply text without editorial changes, in a length not exceeding twice the volume of the original material. The text of the reply must comply with the same content standards as our editorial work. We do not comment on, or refute, the reply within the same publication; if a further editorial response is warranted, it appears in a subsequent material.
Update. When a developing story moves forward — new figures, a new official statement, a fresh decision by an authority — we add the new information to the existing article and mark the time at which the article was last updated. Routine updates of this kind are not corrections, but we still flag them so the reader sees that the material has changed since first publication.
Retraction. In rare cases where the central premise of an article is shown to be wrong, we withdraw the article. The URL remains accessible and carries a clear notice explaining that the story has been retracted and why. We do not silently delete published material.
How corrections and replies appear
Corrections, clarifications and replies are attached to the article they concern, normally at the foot of the text, and include a short note in the form "Correction, [date]: An earlier version of this article …" identifying what was wrong and what now stands. The note is permanent — it stays with the article in its archive form.
If a correction concerns a headline, a social-media post or a newsletter version of a story, we correct those distribution surfaces as well, including a follow-up note on the relevant channel where the platform allows it.
How to report an error or submit a reply
If you believe a Trend article contains a factual error, or you wish to exercise a right of reply, please write to [email protected] with:
- the link to the article in question;
- the specific statement you believe is incorrect, or the proposed text of your reply;
- what the correct information is, with a source if you can provide one (for example, an official document, a public statement or your own role in the events described).
We read every correction or reply request. Where the error is clear from the source you cite, the correction will usually appear the same day. More complex matters — for example, those requiring independent confirmation from a third party — can take longer, and we will keep you informed. If we decide not to issue a correction, clarification or reply, we will send you a reasoned response within 3 (three) working days. Publication of a correction, clarification or reply is free of charge.
Under the applicable legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the right to demand a refutation, correction or reply may be exercised within one month of the publication concerned. The affected person also retains the right to refer the matter directly to a court of competent jurisdiction.
What we will not do
We do not remove or rewrite past coverage at the request of subjects of that coverage unless the original reporting itself was factually wrong, defamatory or misrepresented the subject's statements. Disagreement with a story, or a wish that it had been written differently, is not in itself a basis for a correction — but it may be a basis for exercising the right of reply described above.
We do not delete or alter published articles without leaving an editorial note explaining the change.
