BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 11. SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) will provide KazMunayGas JSC (KMG, the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan) with proposals for the Baku-Supsa route within a month, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chair of the KMG Management Board, told Trend in an exclusive interview.

"On March 9, at a meeting with Rovshan Najafov, we agreed that within a month the SOCAR will provide us with proposals on the Baku-Supsa route, including on tariff policy," he said.

Earlier, a source in the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported that the issue of considering the possibility of transporting Kazakh oil via the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline in the amount of up to 3 million tons per year is being discussed with the Azerbaijani side.

This was then confirmed by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliev. "Kazakhstan is analyzing the possibility of using the Baku-Supsa pipeline, which has a throughput capacity of 5 million tons per year. In general, discussions in this direction continue with all interested parties," he said on the sidelines of a government meeting.

Meanwhile, in 2023, Kazakhstan transported 1.39 million tons of oil through Baku, and all this oil went through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline.

Back in 2022, Azerbaijan offered Kazakhstan the use of the Baku-Supsa pipeline and could allocate a share of up to 1.5 million tons in the BTC pipeline to maintain the structure regarding the BTC Blend.

The capacity of Baku-Supsa is 5-6 million tons of oil per year.
