BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. The use of MasterCard payment cards issued in Azerbaijan by non-resident financial institutions by the end of April 2025 reached 461,400, while the total transaction volume stood at 49.2 million manat ($28.9 million).
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) indicates that the number of transactions rose by 172,200, marking a 59.5 percent increase, while the total transaction value grew by 19.2 million manat ($11.2 million), or 64 percent, compared to the end of March 2025.
Furthermore, the aggregate of MasterCard transactions
originating from non-resident entities reached 289,200, culminating
in a transactional volume of 30 million manat (equivalent to $17.6
million) by the conclusion of March 2025.
The CBA additionally disclosed that the aggregate volume of
transactions executed via all payment instruments issued by
non-resident financial entities had culminated at 1.4 million by
the conclusion of April 2025, reflecting a comprehensive
transaction value of 140.5 million manat ($82.6 million).
Payment instruments disseminated by extraterritorial financial
entities pertain to banking cards promulgated by fiscal
institutions that lack registration within the jurisdiction of
Azerbaijan. A non-resident is characterized as an entity, whether
juridical or physical, that is not entrenched within the
territorial confines of the nation or is situated beyond its
geographical periphery.
