Azerbaijani Constitutional Court begins considering presidential election results (PHOTO)

The Plenum of the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court started on Saturday to approve the Central Election Commission's final protocol on the results of the Azerbaijani presidential election held on October 9.

Judges Sona Salmanova and Rafael Gvaladze delivered speech at the plenum.

Salmanova stressed that the Central Election Commission (CEC) has submitted an election protocol to the court for approval. In his turn, Gvaladze added that according to the protocol on the election results, Ilham Aliyev won the election by gaining most of votes.

CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov also delivered speech at the plenum.

"CEC has registered a sufficient number of local and foreign observers to ensure transparency of elections," he said. "Webcams were installed at 20 percent of polling stations."

While speaking about the election process, Panahov stressed that all the necessary conditions were created for candidates, as well as free airtime on television and columns in the print media were allocated.

According to him, on an election day, voters appeared at the polling stations in a proper way and voted for their candidate.

"The public was informed about the situation on an election day by the messages distributed by the CEC and webcams," Panahov said. "The public was rapidly informed about the preliminary results on an election day."

According to him, after the voting, the CEC received four appeals which were thoroughly examined.

The CEC held various meetings with members of state agencies and election commissions throughout the election process, Panahov said.

Then the representatives of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee made a report. They stressed that the election commissions thoroughly counted the votes.

The CEC summed up the presidential election results in the country on October 17.

According to Articles 108 and 203 of the Electoral Code, the CEC issued and signed a protocol on the election results.

The protocol was submitted to the Constitutional Court for approval.

Candidate of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev won the presidential election held on October 9. He gained the most votes - 84.54 percent (3,126,113) voters.

Other candidates received:

Jamil Hasanli - 5.53 percent (204,642 votes)

Iqbal Aghazade - 2.40 percent (88,723 votes)

Gudret Hasanguliyev - 1.99 percent (73,702 votes)

Zahid Oruj - 1.46 percent (53,839 votes)

Ilyas Ismayilov - 1.07 percent (39,722 votes)

Araz Alizade - 0.87 percent (32,069 votes)

Faraj Guliyev - 0.86 percent (31,926 votes)

Hafiz Hajiyev - 0.66 percent (24,461 votes)

Sardar Mammadov - 0.61 percent (22,773 votes).
