French Development Agency to finance major initiatives in Kazakhstan

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 20. The French Development Agency plans to allocate three grants totaling over 4 million euro for educational activities in schools of the Aral Sea basin region, healthcare, and the preservation of Lake Balkhash, a Kazakh Senate deputy said at a plenary session, Trend reports.

At a plenary session of the Senate of Kazakhstan, Deputy Bibigul Zheksenbay spoke about an agreement with France regarding projects in Kazakhstan. According to her, the goal of the agreement is to define the legal, tax, and financial conditions for the operation of the French Development Agency in Kazakhstan.

"The French Development Agency is an organization of the French government that provides official assistance to developing countries for sustainable development. Currently, the agency plans to allocate 945,000 euro as a healthcare grant, 1.3 million euro for projects related to Lake Balkhash, and 2.4 million euro for educational activities in schools in the Aral Sea basin region," said the senator.

“As part of its technical assistance, the French Development Agency is considering several projects, such as expanding the port of Aktau and building power lines in southern Kazakhstan,” she added.

To note, the Senate deputies ratified the intergovernmental agreement on the functioning of the French Development Agency's group in Kazakhstan at the plenary session. The agreement was signed during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Kazakhstan on November 1, 2023.
