ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 18. Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI) not only supplies polypropylene to the Kazakhstani market but also increases its shipments of this product to Russia, Türkiye, and other countries, Trend reports via KazMunayGas.
During a working visit to the Atyrau region, Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), visited the gas-chemical complex of LLP "Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc." (KPI—a subsidiary of KMG). The head of KMG inspected the production facilities and plants.
Specific tasks have been set for the company for 2025, aimed at ensuring stable operations, enhancing reliability, increasing polypropylene production, and cooperating with domestic processors to meet internal demand. In 2024, the KPI plant produced 248,700 tons of polypropylene. The company also opened large warehouses in Almaty and Astana to ensure uninterrupted supplies to processors.
Currently, the plant produces 9 targeted grades of polypropylene, 5 of which were not previously produced in Kazakhstan. By the end of January 2025, production of two new grades is expected to be launched. Today, KPI's market share in the domestic polypropylene market exceeds 50 percent. Polypropylene imports in the country have decreased from 63 percent in 2022 to 17 percent by the end of 2024.
