ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 3. Kazakhstan Railways is accelerating the construction of a container hub in Aktau, with land clearing for 24 hectares already completed, Trend reports via Kazakhstan Railways.

A modern container hub is under construction at the Kazakh port of Aktau, set to increase the port’s capacity to 240,000 TEUs per year. The port area has already been cleared, with over 313,000 tons of soil delivered to the site. Vertical planning work is 65 percent complete.

"More than 100 units of specialized equipment and two 12-hour work shifts ensure full control and steady progress in construction," the company stated.

Kazakhstan Railways also announced plans for dredging operations at the port, which will enhance its terminal capacity, improve efficiency for container transportation, upgrade port infrastructure for increased rail freight handling, and boost the potential for maritime shipping.

To note, in 2024, during the 8th Silk Road International Exhibition in China’s Xi'an, JSC "KTZ Express" (a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways), LLC "Lianyungang Port Group," and JSC "NC Aktau Sea Commercial Port" signed founding documents for a joint venture to implement the "Construction of a Container Hub at Aktau Port" project. The project has received support from both the Kazakh and Chinese governments and is being carried out under the global "Belt and Road" initiative.
