BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. Freight and passenger transportation increased by 5.5 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively, during January of this year in Azerbaijan compared to January 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee shows that 18.4 million tons of cargo were transported by economic entities operating in the transport sector.
Besides, 4.5 percent of cargo was transported by sea, 8.2 percent by rail, 0.2 percent by air, 55.7 percent by road, and 31.4 percent by pipeline.
The volume of cargo transported by vehicles belonging to the non-state sector increased by 4.4 percent, and the specific weight of this sector in the total volume of transported cargo was 74.8 percent.
In January 2025, transporters served 157.2 million passengers. 87.9 percent of passengers were transported by car, 11.4 percent by subway, and the rest by other modes of transportation.
