ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 21. The Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NBK) has made amendments to the legal acts of the NBK regarding currency regulation, introducing new rules, Trend reports.

According to the NBK, the currency assets of the National Fund at the end of 2024 amounted to $58.8 billion. The cumulative return on the fund since its inception is approximately 128 percent, or 3.55 percent per year.

The Board also made changes to the legal acts of the NBK regarding currency regulation: changes were made to shorten the deadlines for banks to report on currency transactions; the list of operations that may be aimed at evading currency legislation requirements and are subject to financial monitoring has been expanded; limits for the deviation of the purchase rate from the sale rate of foreign currency for transactions conducted through exchange offices have been set: 7 tenge for USD and 10 tenge for EUR; a decision was made to issue a new 1,000 tenge banknote of the national currency with a redesigned 2024 version starting March 28, 2025; the design and issuance of two new collectible coins in 2025 were approved: “GRIFFIN” from the series “Legends and Myths of the Nomads” and “OTYRAR” from the series “Studying Coins – Discover Kazakhstan.”

The Board meeting also made decisions on amendments and additions to certain resolutions of the Board of the National Bank of Kazakhstan regarding payment systems and other issues related to the activities of the National Bank.

To note, previously, exchange rates for currency in the exchange offices of Almaty and Astana on February 21 were published. The investment income for 2024 was positive and amounted to 4.6 billion, or 7.6 percent.
