BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17. The throughput of maritime cargo in Azerbaijan surged to exceed 1.4 million tons during the January to February 2025 timeframe.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that this marks a notable rise of 14.9 percent compared to the same period last year, with oil cargo making up 47.5 percent of the total freight.
Additionally, seaports handled over 2.37 million tons in loading and unloading operations, with transit cargo making up 1.86 million tons, or 78.4 percent of the total.
As of March 1, 2025, the remaining freight at the ports stood at 143,500 tons.
Passenger traffic by sea also saw an increase, with the number of passengers rising by 5 percent, reaching 4,200 in comparison to the same period in 2024.
