ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 14. The modernization and reconstruction of 125 railway stations has begun in all regions of Kazakhstan by April 14, 2025, Trend reports.

“The modernization effort includes the restoration and upgrading of station buildings and surrounding areas, as well as the replacement of engineering systems. Once the work is completed, the stations’ capacity will increase, modern waiting rooms will be introduced, high-speed internet will be available, and new information systems and additional services will be implemented,” stated Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov.

The reconstruction also impacts 21 railway stations in popular tourist destinations.

“The project covers stations in both large cities and remote settlements. For example, in the East Kazakhstan region, we will renovate 5 stations; in the Akmola region – 16; in the Atyrau region – 9; in the Almaty region – 5; in the Aktobe region – 7; in the Abai region – 10; in the Zhetysu region – 8; in the West Kazakhstan region – 4; and the Karaganda region – 11 stations. Similar work is being carried out in other parts of the country,” the Vice Minister added.

Kazakhstan prioritizes the use of domestic materials in works and reconstruction, which contributes to the growth of the local economy and support for domestic producers.
