BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Cargo and passenger transportation in Azerbaijan increased by 2.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively, from January through March 2025 year-on-year.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates that economic entities operating in the transport sector transported 55.9 million tons of cargo. Of this, four percent was transported by sea, 7.7 percent by railway, 0.2 percent by air, 58.1 percent by road, and 30 percent by pipeline.
The volume of cargo transported by vehicles belonging to the non-state sector increased by 3.8 percent, with this sector accounting for 77.4 percent of total cargo transported.
In the first quarter of this year, transport companies served 472.1 million passengers. Of these, 88.2 percent used road transport, 11.2 percent used the metro, and the rest were transported by other means of transport.
