BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. A total of 865,300 passengers were transported by air in Azerbaijan during the first quarter of this year.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates this figure's year-on-year increase by 6.6 percent.
Meanwhile, 99.9 percent of the transportation was carried out by state-owned vehicles, and 0.1 percent by private enterprises. Freight transportation by this type of transport decreased by 4.5 percent to 97,900 tons.
Cargo and passenger transportation in Azerbaijan from January through March 2025 increased by 2.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively, compared to the same period of 2024. Economic entities operating in the transport sector transported 55.9 million tons of cargo. Of this, four percent was transported by sea, 7.7 percent by railway, 0.2 percent by air, 58.1 percent by road, and 30 percent by pipeline.
The volume of cargo transported by vehicles belonging to the non-state sector increased by 3.8 percent, with this sector accounting for 77.4 percent of total cargo transported. In the first quarter of this year, transport companies served 472.1 million passengers. Of these, 88.2 percent used road transport, 11.2 percent used the metro, and the rest were transported by other means of transport.
