ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 20. According to the National Bank's data, currency preferences among Kazakhstani citizens remained stable in February 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from Kazakhstan’s National Bank indicates that the majority of transfers via the SIMT (System of Interbank Money Transfers) were made in US dollars, making up 46.9 percent of the total transfer volume and 22.9 percent of the total number of transactions. At the same time, the Kazakhstani tenge remained a key currency, accounting for 41 percent of the volume and 61.2 percent of the number of transfers.
This trend shows that, whether at home or abroad, a growing number of Kazakhstani residents are putting their eggs in the tenge basket, indicating a rising faith in the national currency. It also highlights its growing use for payments within Kazakhstan and within the EAEU. Meanwhile, the United States continues to serve as the primary center for international money transfers.
