ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 28. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received a report on the socio-economic development of the Almaty region for the first quarter of 2025 during a meeting with the Akim (Governor) of the Almaty region, Marat Sultangaziev, Trend reports.
Marat Sultangaziev reported on positive growth across key sectors of the economy. Specifically, industrial production totaled 507.9 billion tenge (approximately $964.9 million), while agricultural output reached 97.4 billion tenge (approximately $185.1 million). The number of small and medium-sized businesses grew to 146,200, reflecting a 7.7 percent increase.
In the course of the meeting, Tokayev was briefed on the launch of 12 new industrial projects since the start of the year. These include the expansion of the GALANZ bottling plant, the construction of the Bartogai HPP-28, and a cascade of small hydropower plants along the Sharyn River. Overall, 122 projects with a combined value of 2.4 trillion tenge (approximately $4.56 billion) and the creation of 36,776 jobs are currently underway in the region.
“Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the progress in the development of the cities of Qonaev and Alatau. According to the new master plan, a unified urban environment management system, Smart Qonaev, is being implemented in the regional center, while road and engineering network reconstruction is underway. Work has also started on adjusting the master plan for the city of Alatau and designing its engineering and transport infrastructure,” noted in a statement from the Press Service of the President of Kazakhstan.
According to the akim, within the framework of the national project “Comfortable School”, 17 schools are under construction in the region. In addition, to solve the problem of three-shift education, it is planned to build 19 schools based on a public-private partnership, as well as overhaul of 91 educational facilities in the period from 2025 through 2027.
In conclusion, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of the quality and timely implementation of all planned projects for the development of the regional center – the city of Konaev, the new city of Alatau, and the Almaty agglomeration as a whole. He also instructed special attention to be given to strengthening the potential of industrial zones and SEZ Alatau, as well as the construction of communal and road networks in settlements.
