BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. A total of 4.5 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Iran under a guaranteed contract since April 5, CEO of Iran's National Wheat Farmers Foundation Ali Gholi Imani told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, the largest amount of wheat in the country was purchased from farmers in the Khuzestan and Kurdistan Provinces.
Imani pointed out that in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 12.5 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Iran. In the current year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026), approximately 8.5 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased from farmers. This indicates a 30 percent decrease in the amount of wheat purchased.
The official said that since April 5, 453 trillion rials (about $755 million) have been paid to farmers in exchange for the wheat purchased. Approximately 900 trillion rials (about $1.5 billion) should also be paid to farmers.
As many as, 6.39 million hectares of wheat have been sown in Iran this year. Of this, 4.22 million hectares are durum wheat fields and 2.17 million hectares are conventional fields.
In the current year, the guaranteed price of wheat for bread production in the country has been set at 205,000 rials (about $0.38) per kilogram, and durum wheat at 210,000 rials (about $0.39).
