TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 7. Uzbekgidroenergo JSC commissioned five new micro-hydro power plants in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, resulting in the expansion of clean energy capacity, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Energy.
The initiative is implemented following the presidential decree No. PQ-129 dated March 28, 2025, aimed at expanding the network of micro hydropower facilities across the country.
The projects, fully funded by Uzbekgidroenergo JSC, are part of a broader plan to systematically develop renewable energy infrastructure throughout Uzbekistan’s regions. The necessary equipment and units for these plants were produced locally at the UzHydroPower plant, owned by Uzbekgidroenergo, reinforcing the nation’s drive toward localization in energy production.
In Nukus district, three micro hydroelectric power plants have been commissioned. One 15 kW plant utilizes the flow of the Bozatov Canal near the “Aqterek” neighborhood citizens’ assembly, generating about 85,000 kWh annually to supply electricity to local residents. Two additional plants with a combined capacity of 30 kW, situated along the Tortkul Canal in the “Kizil Uy” village of the “Kerder” neighborhood citizens’ assembly, are expected to produce 175,000 kWh per year.
In Khodzheyli district, two micro hydroelectric plants, each with a capacity of 50 kW and located on the banks of the Suyenli Canal flowing through Samankul village, will generate approximately 580,000 kWh annually.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key officials, including F. Ermanov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, Nukus district Khokim Z. Zaytov, and Uzbekgidroenergo representatives.
These micro hydropower plants have been assigned to local neighborhoods, with revenues generated from electricity sales earmarked for socio-economic development within these communities. The project also serves as a model for local entrepreneurs, who are encouraged to participate in the construction of future micro hydropower plants through public-private partnerships.
