BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9. Iranian caviar production grew by 17 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Nasser Karami-Rad, a senior official at the Iran Fisheries Organization, told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, last year, 25.1 tons of sturgeon caviar were produced in the country, compared to 21.6 tons in the previous year.
Karami-Rad pointed out that last year, 6,050 tons of sturgeon meat were produced in the country, marking 26 percent year-on-year growth.
He said that sturgeon is currently being bred in 22 of the country's 31 provinces. It's planned to increase the production of sturgeon caviar in the country to 140 tons per year and sturgeon meat to 20,000 tons.
The official added that Iran officially exported more than 7.5 tons of customs-declared sturgeon caviar. It's also estimated that a large amount of sturgeon caviar is exported from the country by passengers through the suitcase trade.
To note, more than 130 sturgeon breeding facilities operate in Iran.
