BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 16. Iran has purchased over 5.6 million tons of wheat from farmers under a guaranteed procurement program, valued at 1.15 quadrillion rials (about $1.68 billion) from April 5 through July 9, said Saeed Rad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Executive Director of the State Trading Corporation, Trend reports.
Speaking to local media, Rad noted that 50 percent of the payment for the purchased wheat has been made to farmers.
He added that guaranteed wheat purchases amounted to 1.44 million tons in Khuzestan Province, 590,000 tons in Golestan, 505,000 tons in Fars, 435,000 tons in Kermanshah, and 320,000 tons in Razavi Khorasan.
This year, wheat was sown on 6.39 million hectares in Iran, with 4.22 million hectares under irrigated farming and 2.1 million hectares as rainfed land.
For the current year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026), the guaranteed price for bread wheat is set at 205,000 rials per kilogram (about $0.38), and durum wheat at 210,000 rials per kilogram (about $0.39).
