BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 31. Azerbaijan imported 149,100 tons of plastic and related products from January through June 2025, with the total import cost reaching $274.9 million.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this represents a growth of 7,100 tons, or 5 percent, in volume and an increase of $22.5 million, or 8.9 percent, in value compared to the same period last year (142,000 tons worth $252.4 million).
These plastics accounted for 2.39 percent of Azerbaijan’s total imports during this period.
To note, the country’s foreign trade turnover reached $24.4 billion, marking an increase of $2.6 billion, or 12.1 percent, compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s exports accounted for $12.9 billion of the trade volume, while imports totaled $11.5 billion. Over the past year, exports have slightly declined by 0.2 percent, whereas imports have surged by 29.9 percent.
This resulted in a positive trade balance of $1.4 billion, which is $2.7 billion, or three times, lower than the previous year’s surplus.
