BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Azerbaijan's sea transportation has been a real game changer, moving about 1.5 million tons of cargo worth roughly $1.5 billion from January to August 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this represents a decrease of $105.4 million, or 6.6 percent less in value, and a reduction of about 429,700 tons, or 22.5 percent less in volume, compared to the same period in 2024.
The data indicate that, despite this overall downward trend, the exports were valued at about $83.6 million, with a volume of 141,800 tons, marking a 7.8 percent, or $6 million, increase in value and a 2.3-fold rise in volume compared to the previous year.
In terms of import dynamics, Azerbaijan engaged in maritime
logistics, facilitating the acquisition of goods valued at $1.4
billion during the specified timeframe, culminating in an aggregate
volume of approximately 1.3 million metric tons.
This indicates a contraction of $111.5 million, translating to a
7.3 percent depreciation in value, alongside a decrement of
approximately 509,900 tons, equating to a 27.6 percent decline in
volume, relative to the corresponding timeframe in 2024.
