BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. Imports of products from Russia in the first six months of the current Iranian year increased by two percent in value and 6.4 percent in weight compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) indicates that the country's imports of products from Russia totaled 1.13 million tons, valued at $793 million.
The analytics reveal that Iran predominantly sourced
petrochemical commodities, agrarian products, glass receptacles,
industrial artifacts, and a myriad of ancillary items from the
Russian Federation.
The bilateral trade volume between Iran and Russia, excluding
hydrocarbon exports, over the past half-year amounted to 2.87
million metric tons, translating to an approximate valuation of
$1.26 billion. Despite a contraction of 2.47 percent in monetary
terms relative to the corresponding timeframe of the previous year,
there was a notable escalation of 18.6 percent in volumetric weight
metrics.
Overall, IRICA data shows that Iran’s total imports of goods during the period amounted to approximately 18.8 million tons, valued at around $28.4 billion. Compared to the same period last year, total imports decreased by 15 percent in value and increased by 2 percent in weight.
Iran prioritizes the import of essential products required by the country while imposing certain restrictions on the import of goods that have domestic equivalents.
The Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) is the government organization under Iran's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance that manages and enforces customs regulations at the country's entry and exit points. It is responsible for collecting duties and taxes, clearing goods for import, export, and transit, and ensuring compliance with all customs laws and regulations. IRICA also works to facilitate trade by streamlining processes, managing initiatives like the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, and connecting its national system to international platforms like eTIR.
