A solid waste sorting plant and the Balakhani solid waste landfill will be commissioned in Azerbaijan in late 2012, chairman of the Temiz Seher Company board Zakir Ibrahimov said an event dedicated to the Waste calculator project today.
"Both plants are currently operating in a test mode and will be commissioned in December this year," he said.
A semi-automatic sorting unit with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year will deliver the sorted waste to an industrial park which will be also constructed in Balakhani.
The incinerator is the largest in its productive capacity in Eastern Europe and the CIS. It will be equipped with fourth generation technologies and will be capable of processing 500,000 tons of solid and 10,000 tons of organic waste per year.
This incinerator will also be an alternative source of energy production. It will be able to produce 231.5 million kilowatts per year which is enough to provide 50,000 households with electricity.
French company CNIM SA is dealing with the plant construction. Its commissioning will create about 100 new jobs.
The project will cost 346 million euro. The Islamic Development Bank has allocated 150 million euro to the project implementation. The bank's loans for the waste incineration plant construction have been allocated for 18 years with a grace period of three years. They are intended to purchase the equipment. The construction is being financed from budget funds.
An incineration waste plant Balaxani LTD is being built on a 20-hectare plot in Balakhani township near to the existing landfill.
Temiz Seher has been established in the country. It deals with the placement, disposal and recycling of all waste in Baku and Absheron. Baku executive power cleans and delivers waste. The main reason for establishing the plant is to improve the ecological situation in Baku and Absheron.
