The tender for the new airport construction in Istanbul will be held on May 3, Turkish Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Binali Yildirim was quoted today by TRT Turk TV channel as saying.
He said that according to the preliminary data, about 350,000 tons of metal and 10,000 tons of aluminium will be used to construct a new airport in Istanbul.
The new airport will have two terminals, Yildirim said.
The third airport construction project in Turkey is one of the most large scale projects in the transport sector.
The third airport in Istanbul will be built on an area near Lake Terkos north of the city, Istanbul mayor Kadir Topbas said earlier.
He added that the airport transportation capacity will reach 150 million passengers a year.
