Iran has exported over 7.7 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to Turkey and imported some 4 bcm from Turkmenistan since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 20, 2012, the Mehr News Agency quoted Deputy Oil Minister Javad Owji as saying on Tuesday.
Some 15-20 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas is imported per day from Turkmenistan and around 30 mcm of gas is exported to Turkey, he noted.
About 61 bcm of gas has been also supplied to the national power plants and industrial units, he added.
In December 2012, Owji said that Iran's gas exports to Turkey have hit a new record high and surpassed 31 million cubic meters.
The official added that under an agreement between Tehran and Ankara, the Islamic Republic should export up to 30 mcm of gas daily to its northwestern neighbor.
However, following a request by Turkey's Butas Company to import more gas from Iran due to severe cold, Iran currently exports more than 31.5 mcm of natural gas to Turkey per day," Owji noted.
According to Owji, Iran's average daily gas exports to neighboring countries, including Armenia and Turkey amount to nearly 35 mcm per day.
Owji said that about 61 billion cm of gas supplied industrial and power plants from beginning of this Iran's solar year.
Around 18-20 million cm/day is allocated to produce CNG. He did not mention the comsumed amounts of gas in housing sectors.
According to BP stats of 2012, Iran's total gas production was about 151.8 bcm, while its consumption was 153.3 bcm.
However, according to official stats from Iran, country's total gas consumption in industry, housing and power plant sectors was 107 bcm during first 9 months of the current Solar year. Of that amout, 47 percent amounted to the housing sector.
