Turkey's foreign trade deficit in June 2013 grew by 18.9 percent compared to the same month in 2012, reaching $8.5 billion, a report of the Turkish Statistical Institute said on Wednesday.
Turkey's exports in June 2013 fell by six percent compared to the same month in 2012, amounting to $12.4 billion. Meanwhile imports to Turkey by the year increased by 2.8 percent amounting to $21.8 billion.
Imports from the European Union to Turkey in June 2013 were 41.6 percent of total imports compared to 37.1 percent in June 2012. Turkey's exports to the EU for the mentioned period rose by 5.3 percent to $ 5.1 billion.
Turkey's largest export destination in June was Germany. Turkey's exports to Germany in June rose by 3.5 times, amounting to $1.1 billion. Iraq holds second place after Germany - $925 million and the United Kingdom holds the third place with $605 million.
The greatest importer to Turkey was China - $ 2.7 billion, which is 20.4 percent more than in the same month of 2012. Germany holds the second place for imports to Turkey - $ 1.9 billion, and Russia holds the third place with $ 1.4 billion.
