Hungary is awaiting a response from the Azerbaijani State Civil Aviation Administration on a possible extension of the agreement on holding direct flights between Baku and Budapest with 'Wizz Air' airline's planes.
Speaking to Trend on Wednesday, May 21, Hungary's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zsolt Csutora said that the direct flights between Baku and Budapest are carried out in accordance with the cooperation memorandum signed by the civil aviation administrations of the two countries.
However, the memorandum expired on April 8, 2014 and then it was extended for three months.
"The final deadline expires on July 8. The Hungarian side has already applied for extending the memorandum, but there has not yet been any response from Azerbaijan's Civil Aviation Administration," the diplomat said.
Planes fly from Budapest to Baku on Mondays and Fridays, and from Baku to Budapest on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The flights are conducted using Airbus aircraft.
Over six months of Wizz Air's operations on the Budapest-Baku-Budapest route the passenger traffic exceeded 14,000 people, according to stats for January 2014.
The company plans to increase passenger traffic up to 26,000 people this year.
