A massive sowing of winter wheat began in Turkmenistan - some 1.6 million tonnes are to be collected from 860 000 hectares of land in 2015, the state news agency Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary (TDH) reported.
According to the report, in particular, some 450 000 tonnes are to be collected in the Akhal velayat (region), 380 000 tonnes in Mary, 350 000 tonnes in Lebap, 300 000 tonnes in Dashoguz and 120 000 tonnes in Balkan.
The current sowing campaign will involve about two thousand plow tractors and five thousand arable tractors, more than 1660 seeders and other plants and equipment.
In July, it was reported that since the beginning of the year some 1,196 million tonnes had been collected, which accounts for three quarters of the targeted sum. Last year Turkmenistan managed to collect 1.6 million tonnes of grain, which is a 400 000 tonnes increase compared to 2012.
In 2010 Turkmenistan became the first exporter of surplus food grains.
