Iran has unveiled plans it has regarding the recently unveiled "Sorena 3", a domestically-made humanoid robot.

The "Sorena 3" project director Agil Yousefi Koma, told Trend there are certain plans to use the technological achievements from the project in other spheres.

"One plan is to continue work on the project regarding upgrades, that is to make Sorena 4," he said. "The contract will be signed and the project will start in the coming months."

The other plan is to use the "Sorena 3" project's technology for commercial purposes. Koma did not reveal any details.

He said while the robot itself can be used for rescue operations, help in hospitals, work in space field and car industry, its parts can also be used for creating artificial limbs.

Koma further said that the "Sorena 3" project's budget was 20 billion rials (about $670,000). The project eventually took 4 years to make, for a 70-member team.

Compared to "Sorena 1" and "Sorena 2" humanoid robots, the third model, according to Koma, is 7 times faster and has a 40-percent improved limb movement.

"It is smarter, can identify people from objects, it can talk, identify voice commands, respond to them," said Koma. He added that "Sorena 3" is also capable of climbing, doing aerobic moves.

The robot was unveiled on Nov. 16. Iran originally made the Sorena-I robot in 2008, which was followed by Sorena-II, released in 2011.
