More than 8,600 tons of fish will be produced in Uzbekistan's Bukhara region in 2018, according to Uzbek media.
The Bukhara region is home to 240 fish farms and enterprises engaged in fish farming, which have artificial ponds with an area of 1,600 hectares.
Furthermore, fish farming have been organized in eight natural lakes and one reservoir with a total area of 56,000 hectares. This year it is planned to get 8,600 tons of fish products, which is twice as much as last year.
Earlier, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed to issue additional 100 billion soums for the development of fishing industry in the Bukhara region and to train personnel in this field.
Under the decree, Uzbekistan plans to produce up to 150,000 tons of fish in 2018. This is 2.5 times higher than the average annual production of recent years (about 60,000 tons).
The three leading producers of fish this year will include the Tashkent region with 20,100 tons of fish, Karakalpakstan - 20,000 tons and Khorezm region - 13,100 tons.
