The European Investment Bank (EIB) will invest 60 million euros in the construction of the Uzbekistan Peugeot Citroen Automotive joint venture for production of minibuses and commercial vehicles in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan, Uzbek media reported on May 22 citing EIB Vice-President Vasil Khudak.
Khudak said the EIB is planning to provide Uzbekistan with financial resources worth about $500 million.
According to him, the bank will provide funds worth 100 million euros to finance various projects in energy saving and water supply in Uzbekistan.
Khudak noted that the funds for the projects will be channeled through the framework loans. The loans are expected to be signed during the planned visit of the president of Uzbekistan to Brussels in autumn 2018.
During the visit, the EIB vice-president held meetings with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Head of the State Investment Committee Sukhrob Kholmuradov and heads of other ministries and departments in Tashkent.
Khudak noted that the government of Uzbekistan and the EIB are currently discussing certain projects.
According to him, the bank is planning to finance small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the renewable energy sphere, as well as projects that allow more efficient energy use.
The parties also agreed to cooperate in the field of water management and are currently discussing possibility of participating in development of urban infrastructure, modernization of the local government sector, development of heating systems in the cities of Uzbekistan.
