The French Alstom Company will present on June 27 in Kazakhstan the first freight locomotive AZ8A, which was built by the order of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, the company told Trend June 5.
The presentation of the AZ8A locomotive (Azeri Prisma T8) will be held at the production site of the EKZ ("Electrovoz kurastyru zauyty") JV in Astana with the participation of Alstom representatives.
The contract for the supply of 50 locomotives - 40 freight and 10 passenger locomotives - for Azerbaijan Railways Company was signed in 2014, and the final agreement was signed in May 2015.
AZ8A asynchronous traction-driven electric locomotives are being built specifically for Azerbaijan and will become one of the most powerful locomotives in the world: they can pull up to 9,000 tons at a speed of 120 kilometers/hour. Assembly of locomotives supplied under this contract is carried out at the EKZ JV – a production site located in Astana (Kazakhstan).
