The opening of a complex for processing natural gas and producing polyethylene and polypropylene in the settlement of Kiyanly of the Balkan region of Turkmenistan will be held on October 17, 2018, the local television channel Altyn Asyr reported October 8.
Five billion cubic meters of natural gas will be processed and 381,000 tons of high-density polyethylene, 81,000 tons of polypropylene will be produced here annually. At the same time, up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of commercial gas will be produced.
The project worth more than $3.4 billion is being implemented by the Turkmengaz State Concern jointly with LG, Hyundai (Republic of Korea) and TOYO (Japan) companies. At the last government meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the establishment of modern production facilities for manufacturing of polymer products demanded on world markets and by domestic consumers, will help strengthen the export potential of the country, solve problems in the field of import substitution.
It was reported earlier that it is planned to build on the Caspian coast of Turkmenistan another gas-chemical complex for the production of polypropylene, linear low density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, as well as caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, and liquid chlorine.
In addition, a project is underway to build in Kiyanly settlement a plant for the production of methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) by processing 4,000 tons of ethylene gas and 2,000 tons of methanol per year. The intermediate products of the new gas chemical complexes will be used as raw materials at this plant.
