Agricultural production in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province increased by 30 percent during the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), said Reza Amiri-Zadeh, head deputy of Agricultural Production in Hormozgan Agriculture Jihad Ministry, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
According to Amiri-Zadeh, 70,000 hectares of the area were planted this year for cultivating agricultural crops outside of the planting season.
According to Amiri-Zadeh, 29 crops are cultivated in the Hormozgan Province outside of the planting season. Eggplant, tomato, cucumber, cabbage, pepper and bean are the mainly cultivated products.
"Besides meeting the provincial demand, the cultivated crops are also sent to the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, Fars, Qom, East Azerbaijan and West Azerbaijan, as well as to Gulf countries," he said.
Amiri-Zadeh highlighted that cultivating agricultural crops outside of the planting season in Hormozgan has a significant impact on regulating the market and preventing price hikes.
The cultivation of crops outside of the planting season in Iran’s Hormozgan Province begins in October and November, while the harvest begins in December and lasts until April.
According to the announced statistics, 1,6 million tons of crops are grown in the Hormozgan Province of Iran outside of the planting season.
Bandar Abbas, Minab and Rudan counties are the main regions for the cultivation of crops during the aforementioned period.
