From October 1 of this year, the “open sky” mode was launched at Karshi, Nukus, Termez and Bukhara international airports in Uzbekistan, in accordance with the decree signed in August by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
The regime is introduced using the “fifth air freedom” when transporting citizens of foreign countries. State Committee for Tourism is expected to significantly increase the influx of foreign tourists.
Zafarjon Vokhidov, head of the department for facilitating the improvement of the transportation system of the State Committee for Tourism stated that the “open sky” regime will allow liberalizing and facilitating access, as well as the conditions for using Uzbekistan’s air harbors for foreign airlines.
“Open sky” mode gives international airlines access to airports and their ground services. The key principles of the “open sky” are not only the granting of rights to transit flights, but also the government’s non-interference in pricing, the appointment of routes and airlines, as well as the absence of restrictions on the types of aircraft and their capacities, ”he said.
According to Vokhidov, the application of the “open sky” policy has increased passenger traffic in the world up to 35 percent. It also reduced airfare prices from 20 to 40 percent.
He added that “open sky” will also create tens of thousands of jobs.
