There are plans to begin overhaul of the Baku (Bilajari settlement) - Yalama (settlement in Khachmaz district) railway section at the end of this year, or at the beginning of 2020, Spokesperson for Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Natavan Bayramova told Trend Nov. 15, commenting on the issue of this railway line’s construction.
“The work underway on the Baku (Bilajari) - Yalama railway section is related to the laying of communication and power lines, as well as fiber-optic cables,” Bayramova noted. “In addition, five new substations have been built there.”
The spokesperson noted that the construction process will last approximately two years.
“The total length of the section is 382 kilometers,” Bayramova added. “Of these, 34 kilometers from Bilajari to Sumgait city have been completely repaired, and 348 kilometers will be overhauled under this project.”
The spokesperson also stressed that the renewal of the Baku-Yalama railway line will play an important role in ensuring traffic safety in this area, expanding the activities of the International North-South Transport Corridor in the future.
“At the same time, a railway will be laid at the Shahdag Mountain Resort in Gusar district,” Bayramova added.
Yalama railway station in the Khachmaz district is located three kilometers from Azerbaijan’s state border with Russia, at the junction with the section of the North Caucasus Railway.
