The plan to provide public transport (taxis, pickups, etc.) with dual fuel (gasoline and gas) has begun to be implemented in Iran, Director of CNG Project at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Hamid Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh told the Shana news agency, Trend reports.
According to Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh, on the first day, 600 pickup trucks were equipped free to use gas fuel.
Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh said it is estimated that 1,000 public transport vehicles, including taxis and pickups, will be equipped per day to use gas fuel.
The official said that in the first stage, taxis and pickups will be provided with gas, in the next stage, taxis operating with online orders and intercity passenger cars will be equipped with gas fuel equipment.
"Currently, the National Iranian oil products Distribution Company supplies 21 million cubic meters of CNG to gas stations in the country every day. Taking into account the existing infrastructure, this figure can be increased to 40 million cubic meters per day," he said.
On Nov. 15, 2019, the price of gasoline sold on quota increased from 10,000 rials (23 cents) to 15,000 rials (35 cents) and the price of gasoline sold free from the quota increased to 30,000 rials (71 cents) in Iran. About 1.46 million cars will be provided with dual fuel (gasoline and gas) in the first stage of dual fuel supply in Iran. Around 65 trillion rials (about $ 1.54 billion) funds have been allocated to these operations. By providing the cars with dual fuel, 12 million liters of gasoline per day will be saved. The plan to provide cars with free dual fuel will be implemented within 14 months.
In mid-November 2019, the country consumed 95-96 million liters of gasoline per day. Following the price increase, consumption decreased by 20 million liters to 75 million liters. On April 4, 2020, gasoline consumption decreased by 55 million liters per day.
