Uzbekistan plans to increase potato harvest by almost 60 percent in 2020, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan National News Agency.
A scientific and practical seminar, titled ‘Technology of potato cultivation in areas freed from sowing’ was recently in Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.
The event was dedicated to the effective use of liberated land and the cultivation of vegetable products for the needs of the population.
As was noted during the seminar, this year the region plans to grow potatoes on 18,000 hectares, of which 6,000 hectares fall on the main areas, 12,000 hectares fall on re-planting.
By the end of the year, 533,300 tons of potatoes are planned to be obtained from these areas, including 244,000 tons from the re-planting lands.
Currently, for planting on 12,000 hectares of land, 36,700 tons of seed potatoes are required.
The main part of the seeds will be provided by farms and other agricultural enterprises, and the supply of the missing part of the seeds from Russia, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands will be carried out by three importing companies – Shukrona Afro Fayz LLC, Bananza Trade Export and Baxtiyor Ideal Biznes.
