The strategies for the export of herbs in Iran will be regulated with the participation of leading companies in the cultivation and processing of herbs in Iran, Secretary of Developing Herbal Medicine Technology Headquarters Mohammad Hassan Osareh said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.
In this regard, a working group will be established, and the list of countries of which Iran exports herbs will be determined based on the types of herbs, according to Osareh.
He added that the Iranian herbs are mainly exported to Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and the United Arab Emirates.
The secretary emphasized that Iran exported $570 million worth of herbs and $100 million worth of herbal products in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
"There are about 150 companies operating in Iran in the herbs cultivation area," Osareh said.
The official noted a number of problems, including US sanctions against Iran, restrictions on exports, and the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, have resulted in some of these companies operating only domestically.
Osareh stressed at present, an average of 250,000 tons of herbs can be grown on 220,000 hectares of land in Iran.
