The activities of 40 mines were restored in the South Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran) over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of South Khorasan Province Abbas Jorjani said, Trend reports citing the organization.
According to Jorjani, a number of mines in the South Khorasan Province have stopped operating due to various reasons (economic problems, sanctions, liquidity, etc.) over the past six years.
Jorjani added that the restored mines were coal, copper, gold, granite, travertine, bentonite, magnesite, and other mines.
The chairman emphasized that certain steps are planned to be taken to restore the activities of mines in the South Khorasan Province in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021, through March 20, 2022). So, necessary steps will be taken to hold auctions and attract technically and financially competent investors to this area.
“The South Khorasan Province has a lot of potential in the mining industry. The use of these potentials, along with increasing of revenues, can lead to increased employment in the region,” he said.
According to recent research, about 6 percent of Iran's mines are located in South Khorasan Province. There are about 50 types of minerals in the province. Examples include coal, iron ore, dolomite, granite, travertine, gold, copper, lead, silicon, and so on.
