A copper mine and plant have been put into operation in the south part of Kerman Province (southeastern Iran), Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of South Kerman Province, Moslem Moravvejifard said, Trend reports citing the organization.
According to him, the plant, which is launched in Qaleh Ganj County can produce 2,400 tons of copper concentrate per year. A total of 430 billion rials (about $10.2 million) was spent on the construction of the plant.
The chairman added that the mine has 1.8 million tons of mining reserves to supply the plant's raw materials, and the mine was put into operation at a cost of 150 billion rials (about $3.57 million).
Moravvejifard noted that 75 people were employed as a result of the launch of both mine and plant.
"In addition, the foundation of the second phase of the plant has been laid in order to increase production and prevent the sale of raw materials. In this phase, 6,000 tons of copper concentrate will be produced," he said.
The official also said that the second phase of the plant will cost 1.2 trillion rials (about $28.5 million) and will employ 140 people.
As reported, there are two industries, mine, and trade organizations in Iran's Kerman Province, taking into account the size of the province. One of these organizations operates in the south part of the province, and the other in the central and north part.
