Under the agreement reached within the bilateral negotiation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan should pay Kazakhstan roughly $15 million for non-contractual electricity consumption from the Central Asia United Energy System in 2011, Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company's (KEGOC) spokesman Marat Muhamedsaliev told Trend over phone on Thursday.
The Kazakh Unified Energy System recorded non-contractual electricity flows from Uzbekistan since September, KEGOC said earlier. Fluctuations on the border with Kazakhstan up to 700 MW of power takeoff or output were observed in the period. These fluctuations caused problems in Kazakh consumers' energy supply. Given these problems, KEGOC earlier repeatedly expressed intentions to abandon the Central Asia United Energy System.
According to Muhamedsaliev, some non-contractual electricity flows from Uzbekistan was observed in 2012, too. Thus, the issue of Kazakhstan's abandonment of the Central Asia United Energy System is not closed.
However, Muhamedsaliev said, the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies took decision on Thursday to postpone the separation of Central Asian countries' energy systems.
"Obviously, Kyrgyzstan's appeal has promoted the final decision, since this country will suffer greatly from the split mode," Muhamedsaliev underscored.
