Imports of fuel to Georgia increased in 2012. Last year, imports of gasoline and diesel fuel amounted to 842,300 tons, or 11,000 tons more than in 2011, the Union of Importers of Petroleum Products told Trend.
"In 2012, Georgia imported 382,400 tons of gasoline and 459,800 tons of diesel fuel. Compared to 2011, imports of gasoline fell by 20 million tons, while imports of diesel fuel increased by 32,000 tons. In 2012, imports of Regular gasoline dropped by 30,000 tons and of Premium gasoline which increased by 10,000 tons in comparison with last year's numbers. Imports of Super gasoline remained at the level of 2011. Imports of L-62 diesel fuel increased by 18,000 tons, with imports of Euro-diesel by 14,000 tons, "the Union reported.
According to the Georgian Union of Petroleum Product importers the largest volume of fuel was imported from Romania - 145,900 tons. This was followed by Bulgaria - 141,500 tons, Azerbaijan - 60,900 tons, Italy - 24,600 tons and Greece - 9,300 tons.
"As for diesel fuel, the largest volume of its imports came from Azerbaijan - 255,500 tons. This was followed by Romania - 71,800 tons, Bulgaria - 45,400 tons and Italy - 4,800 tons, "the Union said.
The Georgian Union of Importers of Petroleum Products also noted that a reduction in gasoline consumption is directly related to the increasing number of vehicles that run on gas.
Oil and gas companies are actively expanding their networks of natural gas filling stations to offer consumers the most comfortable service. In this regard, in 2012, the Georgian company Wissol and SOCAR companies were particularly active.
"The growth of imports of diesel fuel is directly related to factors such as transit, infrastructure projects and the growth of domestic consumption," the Union said.
