Turkey earned $9.5 billion from privatisation in the energy sector in 2012, Sabah newspaper said on Wednesday.
Turkey held 45 privatisation transactions in the energy sector in 2012. According to the newspaper, around 70 per cent were conducted in the electricity sector.
During the reporting period, the biggest deals in this area were carried out within the Seyitomer thermal power plant privatisation and Gediz and Akdeniz electricity distribution networks.
The number of privatisation transactions in the oil and gas sphere significantly decreased in 2012, the newspaper said. It can be stressed that the privatisation of the petrochemical complex Petkim and Russian company Gazprom's acquiring a 60 per cent stake in the Avrasyagaz gas company as being among the main denationalistion operations in this area.
Earlier, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz reported that Turkey intends to continue the energy sector privatisation policy and in particular that of electricity and gas distribution.
