SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) may start the development of Mesozoic sediments on land within four or five years, the company's first vice-president of geology, geophysics and field development Khoshbaht Yusufzadeh told reporters on Saturday.
According to him, ConocoPhilips is currently researching the matter.
In 2011, SOCAR and ConocoPhilips signed the 'Agreement on joint research within onshore pre-exploratory works in Azerbaijan'.
In particular, the companies are conducting research of Mesozoic sediments in the northern regions of Azerbaijan.
As previously stated by Yusufzadeh, the depth of the Mesozoic deposits ranges from minimum depths up to 10,000 meters.
