In his meeting with the chairman of the Board of Directors of Çalik Holding, Ahmet Chalyk, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the issues of modernization of the country's power supply system, a message from Turkmen government said on Dec.25.
"During the meeting Chalyk told the president about the fulfillment of the orders and process of promotion of projects entrusted to the company to ensure a stable power supply in the Turkmen capital, as well as the modernization of the country's energy system as a whole," the message of Turkmen government said.
Çalik Enerji got a large project in 2012 for improvement of the energy supply of the Turkmen capital Ashagabat. The project covers a five-year period. Its will be implemented in three stages.
Five power plants with a capacity of 220 megawatt, some 21 power plants with a capacity of 110 megawatt and about 29 power plants with a capacity of 35 megawatt will be constructed within the project, according to the message from the Turkmen government.
Additionally, overhead power transmission lines will be constructed with all work to be completed in 2016.
The project envisages the involvement of subcontractors such as Schneider Electric, Siemens, General Electric and others that will deliver equipment, carry out commissioning work and training of professional staff.
It was earlier reported that Turkmenenergo state power corporation and Çalik Enerji, which is part of Çalık Holding signed a contract for construction of three small gas turbine power plants.
Power plants with around 141.7 megawatt capacities will be constructed in the Ak bugday district of Akhal region, with 149.2 megawatt capacity - in the Serdarabat district of Lebap province and with capacity of 146.7 megawatt - in the Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi village of Mary province. It is planned to commission these facilities in February 2014.
Power generation is one of the leading sectors of Turkmenistan's national economy, which aims to fully satisfy the needs of industry, agriculture, and social sector, as well as to increase the volume of exports.
