Uzbekistan’s Uzbekenergo JSC signed a contract with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd (MHPS) for construction of two steam and gas turbines at the Turakurgan Thermal Power Plant, a source in Uzbekenergo told Trend.
The power plant is located in Namangan Region, Fergana Valley in eastern Uzbekistan.
“We hope we will be able to start the construction before late 2016,” said the source.
The source didn’t mention the cost of the contract.
In late October 2016, Uzbekenergo JSC announced that Mitsubishi Corporation won a tender for construction of the Turakurgan Thermal Power Plant.
Two steam and gas turbines are planned to be launched in 2017 in the first phase of the project to construct the Turakurgan Thermal Power Plant.
Two more turbines are planned to be commissioned in 2020 in the second phase of the project.
The project worth $1.1 billion is being financed with a loan of $704 million of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a $300 million loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, and Uzbekenergo's own funds.
