Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, July 31
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
Commercial oil flow was obtained during development of the exploratory well no. 34 on the Altygui field in the western oil region of Turkmenistan, "Turkmennebit" State Concern said in a statement.
"A productive horizon was opened at the depth of 4060 meters, which provided a significant flow of liquid hydrocarbons," the message says.
This field has been developed since 2010 and is one of the most promising oil fields in the south-west of Turkmenistan. Exploration work is continuing here.
Experts believe that Altygui field situated between the Gumdag and Bugdayli fields, can occupy a much larger area than previously thought, and have a powerful oil-bearing strata on the lower red horizon.
"Having drilled an exploration well to the design depth and having opened a productive horizon, drillers confirmed the scientists' forecast about the large structure of the oil and gas bearing deposits in this area," the message says.
The state concern operates currently about three dozen fields, including more than 600 oil, oil-and-gas and gas deposits at various stages of development.
Turkmenistan produces about 10 million tons of oil annually.
